i know they are renewed yearly, and here's my dilemma......my mother being a devout jw (and me well faded) - i know i am named on her card as next of kin (she mentioned it a few weeks ago) and over the years she has always asked me to stand against the blood issue on her behalf if she's unable to do so.
i have always agreed, because whatever i believe, i also respect the belief of others too.
now i'm wondering what exactly is on there........is it a flip flop?
aretha franklin sings about respect and the word is frequently used in all languages.. the definition of the word can be : respect, esteem, regard -- (an attitude of admiration or esteem, held in esteem).
many people seem to think that respect automatically follows a position or office, like for instance a president, a bishop, a prime minister or similar lofty titles.
others hold that respect has to be earned and shouldn't be automatic and points to the often obvious fact that some people holding high offices often show themselves to be utter bastards and corrupt crooks that deserves no respect.

I was raised a Lutheran
Did you see the movie Luther? He had some of the same problem early in his life.

a lot of posters on this board have expressed the opinion that religion is the reason for many wars.
some have even implied that if religion was "banned" the number of wars would be reduced.

Are they ready to go to war for that ideal?

no im not crazy now... but maybe i was back then.
did you ever prayed for guidance and opened your bible in a passage that seem to show you the way?.
did you get a innocent comment from an old sister at the hall that seemed at the time like advice from the almighty?.

How do you determine which is which?
Become a Calvinist! or should I say Hiper-Calvinist

i saw an episode of a day talk show the other day in which they interviewed these two women that were part of a polygamous cult in utah.
the cult was referred to as 'the order'.. men married many young wives, and these were expected/forced to breed in large numbers.
these women worked for the cult.

How many JWs ran through a jungle to avoid being forced to poison their children and themselves?
How many had to leave families and face shunnig, never to talk to them again, just because they wanted to save their child with a blood transfussion?
JWs don't live in a community/town/commune on their own. They generally live on the outside world, have normal jobs and contact (to some extent) with worldly people. Why is the suicide rate so high for exJWs, who have sinned and been shunned by their families? Sounds pretty cut off to me. When you take all hope away from someone, what's the difference? D Dog
in the past, god spoke to humans through angels, prophets, and jesus.
today, there are no prophets, angels don't show up anymore, and jesus isn't there to speak to us.. we can talk to god through prayer, but how does god talk to us?.
so, other than the bible which is pretty outdated, how can god communicate with humans?

It looks to me like you know how God speaks today. You just don't want to listen!

The point was to talk about other similar or worse cults/religions/organizations than the WTBTS.
How do you get any worse than killing murdering children, by not letting them have a blood transfusion?

i got an interesting reply from an elder friend when i admitted that i had issues with the wts.
i had listed the failed predictions, the changing doctrines and the mistakes made by the wts.. he came back with the examples of the israelites in the wilderness and under the various kings.
the nation of israel was still god's people despite their hardheadedness and sins.

What organization did "those that still loved and worshipped Jehovah truthfully." belong to . And don't say Israel, Israel is not an organization, it is a nation!
Those that still loved and worshipped Jehovah truthfully, stayed in there country, worshiped God in spirit and in truth. They did not belong to an organization and God never lied to them.

in coc, ray franz stated that, when he was a member of the writing department, he found older bible commentaries quite helpful to use for research.
now you can locate these types of commentators, such as adam clarke, albert barnes, and matthew henry online.
check out http://studylight.org/com/ and http://bible.crosswalk.com/commentaries .. the advantage of these commentaries is that the writers believed the bible to be the inspired word of god.
